Aram Care Foundation is a registered organization committed to mental health support. Through our care home for individuals facing mental health challenges from underprivileged families, we provide essential support and care. We also actively engage in mental health awareness initiatives, networking with caregivers and families of those affected by mental illness.
Our Mission
Our mission is to foster understanding of mental health, emotional well-being, and improved living, while actively working towards a world imbued with aram (அறம் ) the Tamil expression for justice.
Our Team
Maveeran Somasundaram
Founder Trustee
Maveeran Somasundaram is a documentary filmmaker who brings to life the stories of various people he encounters. Having personally gone through the travails of a caregiver (to his late father), Maveeran incepted Aram Foundation to use his expertise in storytelling in creating awareness about the human mind and to support the well-being of both patient and his/her family. He founded Aram Care House as a residential facility for those in need of both physical and mental support, an home for the aged and intellectually challenged.
Mohamed Rafi
Trustee
Mohammed Rafi founded Trust for Education and Rehabilitation of Disabled, Orphans and Destitutes (TERDOD) in 1999 after witnessing an orphaned person’s plight, eventually establishing Anbagam to provide shelter and support for mentally ill individuals, rescuing over 3500 people and reuniting 3000 with their families. Now housing 400 patients across three centers, Anbagam conducts rescue operations, offers rehabilitation activities, and aims to reduce stigma around mental illness with the support of Chennai police and charitable organizations.
Catherine Jona Gilon
Trustee
Catherine Gilon is an experienced development journalist and social worker. Skilled in Web Content Writing, Storytelling, News Writing, Editing, Video production and Feature Writing and currently working with Al Jazeera, DW, Mongabay, Scroll, The Economist.
Dr. Thirumagal
Trustee
Dr. Thirumagal holds an M.D. in Immuno Hematology and Blood Transfusion Medicine from IHBT. Since 2017, she has served as a Consultant in Transfusion Medicine at Vijaya Medical and Educational Trust, bringing her expertise to the forefront of patient care and medical education With extensive experience , she strives to provide compassionate care and support to inmates of aram care home, promoting awareness and understanding of mental health issues in society.
